Astana International Airport, located in the capital city of Astana, is one of the largest and busiest airports in Kazakhstan. It has been in operation since June 2017, and has become the country's main aviation hub. The airport is situated about 12 km southeast of Astana city center, approximately 25 km from the city center. The airport serves around 50 domestic and international flight routes. In 2019, the airport handled over 5.7 million passengers and 63,000 tons of cargo. According to plans, the airport will undergo further expansion in the future to meet the growing demand for air passenger transport, and also strengthen its connectivity with regional and international aviation hubs. As Kazakhstan's main aviation hub, Astana International Airport plays an important role in enhancing the country's air transportation services and international aviation status. The airport has large-scale short-term and long-term parking facilities, with a total of around 6,000 parking spaces, including open-air parking lots and indoor parking garages, catering to diverse needs. The airport has a paid parking system, with rates varying based on the duration of parking. The parking facilities are conveniently located around the airport terminals, in close proximity to the terminals. Requirement
Enhanced Effi ciency of Parking Management to Ease the Traffic Burden
The traffic around Astana International Airport is very congested, due to the large scale of the airport and its status as Kazakhstan's main aviation hub. The sheer volume of vehicles entering and exiting the airport, especially during peak morning and evening hours, often leads to significant traffic jams on the main roads in the vicinity. The high demand for parking also creates challenges, with the parking facilities sometimes unable to accommodate the influx of vehicles, particularly during peak travel times. The traditional entry and exit gate system at the parking areas is relatively inefficient, requiring vehicles to stop and wait to obtain or return parking tickets, which further compounds the congestion issues as traffic backs up. Should any vehicle encounter issues like payment problems or lost tickets, the need for manual handling by security personnel intensifies the delays and disruption to the surrounding traffic flow. Improving the efficiency of the parking management system is a key priority to address these traffic challenges around Astana International Airport.
Integration with E-payment System
Astana International Airport and the local government are continuously optimizing their traffic management measures to alleviate the issues surrounding the airport's parking facilities and the surrounding traffic congestion. Utilizing the increasingly popular electronic payment methods is one of the solutions being implemented.
Solution
ZKTeco installed its Car ID License Plate Recognition System with BL-852Q38A-LP (ZKTeco CarID) License Plate Recognition Cameras and BGM1000 Vehicle Barrier Gate to replace the conventional method with stopping, taking parking ticket for access, and inserting parking ticket for exit. Upon arrival to the entrance of the carpark, the BL-852Q38A-LP camera installed at the entrance will automatically read the license plate number of the car in less than 0.5 second. And upon successful identification of the license plate number, the connected BGM1000 barrier will be lifted to open for the access of the car.
All BL-852Q38A-LP license plate recognition cameras and BGM1000 barriers are connected to integrate with the parking management system of the carpark. The system is operated by KASPI E-payment system, which is one of the most general digital payment platforms. The license plate recognition software embedded in the BL- 852Q38A-LP camera will deliver the data of license plate recognition, including license plate number, entry time and the type of the car, to the parking management system.
Upon exit of the car, BL-852Q38A-LP will read again and identify the license plate number of the car, and deliver the data to the parking management system. The KASPI system will then calculate the charge, according to their rules of charge and the total parking hours. The driver of the car is only required to use KASPI’s code or NFC methods for quick mobile payment of the parking fee. Upon completion of the payment, the system will deliver a signal to the BGM1000 barrier, the barrier will then be lifted for the exit of the car.

And with 1/2.8” Sony STAVIS CMOS high-quality lens, the camera is capable of capturing high-resolution license plate images, and identifying license plate in less than 0.5 second.
Moreover, BL-852Q38A-LP is equipped with 2 LED smart IR lights with up to 50-meter illumination distance, enabling image capturing under extreme darkness as lows as 0.001Lux. With field of view (FoV) range of 38° to 107°, it can identify license plates clearly with different positions and types of vehicles. BL-852Q38A-LP camera’s magnificent features also include IP67 Waterproof and Dustproof level, 10% to 90% working range of relative humidity, and working temperature range of -30°C to 60 °C, which enables it to efficiently operate even under the changes and interference in outdoor environments.
The BGM1000 Barrier adopts Direct-current 24V brushless motors, which offers up to 3,000,000 times of MCBF, minimizing the needs of maintenance. Also, the wide working temperature range from -35°Cto 70°C, and tolerance towards up to 90% relative humidity, enable it to work properly under extreme conditions.
