The LOHAS is a key component of the monumental LOHAS Park property development project. The name LOHAS originates from the internationally recognized acronym for ‘Lifestyles Of Health And Sustainability’,reflecting our commitment to a greener and more sustainable community. Guided by the design principle of “Shopping in the Nature's Breeze”, the architecture of The LOHAS integrates a variety of natural elements to create a harmonious and joyful environment for all life's pleasures.

Spanning 480,000 square feet, The LOHAS is home to Hong Kong's largest indoor ice rink and the district's largest cinema. There are almost 140 merchants, including a rich variety of restaurants, a large supermarket,and many other retailers.

Our solution involves the newly applied entrance control management system for the ice rink. ZKTeco is honoured to provide a complete solution to them.

Solution Details

A. More Efficient Entrance Management 

All customers are required to have valid ticket in order to have access to the ice rink. However, not every customers need to purchase ticket every time they enter and use the ice rick, as the ticket types include hourly, monthly and annual ones. As long as their tickets are still valid, monthly and annual users only need to present their tickets to use the ice rink. Therefore, staffs were required to be deployed at the entrance of the ice rink to verify tickets. The procedure consumes extra human resources for repeated duties and increases chances of mistakes by manually checking tickets. Seeing this, our client expected to see enhance efficiency of entrance control.

Solution 

The client is already using a POS system provided by a local software company, which supports Octopus Card, credit card and cash payment methods. The POS system effectively works that staffs are familiar with. In terms of enhancing work efficiency, remaining the system is the best move. ZKTeco then deployed an entrance control system which could effectively integrate with the POS system and minimize all unnecessary changes, then staffs are enabled to remain their familiar way of work without needing to spend time for learning new methods, and the cost effectiveness is also to the largest extent enhanced. 

We selected ZKBioSecurity Access Control and Visitor Management Software, and integrated it with the 3rd party POS system via API. The ticket purchase procedure is remained to be handled by the existing POS system. In the process of ticket purchase, the relevant data are transmitted to the ZKBioSecurity, the hourly tickets are handled by the visitor management module, and the monthly and annual tickets are handled by the access control module. Upon successful purchase of tickets, the system prints tickets with QR codes corresponding to the customers’ information and the types of tickets. 

We deployed a unit of SBTL5000 and 2 units of SBTL5200 Swing Barriers to form a 3-channel entrance & exit. The barriers are installed with 7 units of QR500 QR Code Scanners for scanning the QR codes on the tickets for verification of access and exit. In case a user's tickets exceeds the period of validity, ZKBioSecurity is able to automatically recognize and reject access.

B. Crowd Control Measure

In order to ensure users' comfort and safety, sufficient space is critical especially to sports like ice skating,maximum number of users are generally established. Before the solution, manual counting of people was performed. Once the number of people reached the limit, access will be paused until any user left, then the same number of access as the number of exits would be granted. Like manually ticket checking, it was easier for mistakes and also increased staffs'  workload.

Solution

ZKBioSecurity as a professional access control and entrance control software, is able to real-time view all data and information of the accessed and exited users, and the total number of the people in the site, thus crowd control is easily performed with the solution, number of people remaining in the ice rink can be ideally controlled.

C. Preventing Repeated Illegal Entry

Like any other premises which require ticket purchase, there are also people who only buy one ticket and gives multiple accesses to their friends to save money, which is surely regarded as a deception. However, even with staff deployment at the entrance, with numerous people accessing the ice rink, effectively recognizing if they hold valid tickets are nearly impossible. Also,the purpose of the solution deployment is to save unnecessary human resources consumption, if manual deployment is required for the entrance, the solution would be totally meaningless. It required an optimal feature to tackle the problem.

Solution

Among numerous access control features of ZKTeco devices, Anti-passback controls and limits repeated accesses or exits, thus only one access is allowed before exit. Therefore, in case any user gives his or her tickets to any other person for access, the system is able to immediately identify, reject access and notify staffs for further actions to eliminate the loopholes for deception.

D. Connection to Other System for better efficiency

Apart from the ice rink, ice skates rental service is also provided for customers’ convenience. If any customer would like to borrow ice skates, they were required to perform manual registration, and check out after using the ice skates. Staffs were required to handle ice skates rental matters manually apart from verifying tickets,which increased the chances of mistakes.

Solution

As the solution has been provided by ZKTeco, the new tickets are printed with QR codes corresponding to the customers’ information, thus the QR codes also apply to the ice skates rental without needing staffs to manually perform registration. For returning ice skates, QR code scanning also applies to ensure ice skates are properly returned by the customers.
