Client Overview
Kossan Rubber Industries Berhad (Kossan Rubber) is a Malaysian company that specializes in the manufacturing and distribution of rubber products. Founded in 1981, the company has grown to become one of the leading rubber product suppliers in the Asia-Pacific region. Kossan Rubber Industries' extensive product portfolio, along with its focus on research and development, has enabled the company to maintain a competitive edge in the global rubber products market. As the demand for rubber-based products continues to grow, Kossan is well-positioned to capitalize on market opportunities and expand its business footprint. As Kossan Rubber's business continues to thrive, its employee size has grown larger, and the daily flow of people in and out has also increased. Kossan Rubber requires a more efficient solution that can effectively safeguard the safety of the office space.
Project Requirements
Enhancement of Access Control Efficiency
Kossan Rubber’s office building is an 8-storey building with up to several-thousand workers access and exiting daily. The flow of commute caused long queue and crowd during the peak flow of on-duty and off-duty period at the main entrance and the lift lobby next to it. The reason causing the crowd, apart from the rapidly increasing scale of staffs, also involved the lack of efficiency of access control and elevator control. For the access control of the main entrance, there were access control systems in front of the lift lobby that required staffs’ swipe-card verification in order to access and exit. If there was any delay of card swiping, the entire flow will be dragged. Apart from the slow speed of access control, it also caused difficulty in security, as manual security monitoring is impossible to precisely identify every staff, posing security threat caused by illegal access to the building, and potentially harming the enterprise’s interests and staffs’ safety.
Enhancement of Carpark Management Efficiency
The increase of the scale of staffs, not only affected the access control of the main entrance, but also affected the efficiency of the carpark management, as a certain proportion of the staffs commute to their workplace by driving, which significantly increased the demand of access and exit of the carpark during peak hours. As the entrance of the carpark is built wide for the heavy-goods vehicles’ access and exit, the barrier of the entrance was also required to be longer and heavier, causing slow operation speed, not being able to digest the heavy vehicle flow during peak hours, and causing traffic congestion.
Cost Efficiency
Kossan Rubber has been cognitive about the lack of efficiency of the previous access control and carpark management, however for the newly deployed solution, they expected to minimize the disruption to the building’s daily operation and be more cost effective.
Solution Details
Entrance Control and Elevator Control
ZKTeco deployed at the main entrance of the building MarsPro-F1000 Series Flap Barrier, to form a multi-channel entrance. At each channel, ZKTeco deployed 2 units of SpeedFace-V5L Facial Recognition Standalone Terminals, one for access and another for exit. All the above devices are connected to and centrally managed by ZKBioSecurity Integrated Security Management Platform Software, all staffs are pre-registered with the personal information and their facial data for identity authentication. Upon access and exit of the building, instead of swiping card, the staffs are only required to scan their faces on the SpeedFace-V5L terminals, the terminals then automatically authenticate their identities and grant access and exit.
ZKTeco also deployed SpeedFace-V5L terminals at the various side doors and back doors for access control. Apart from entrance control, ZKTeco also integrated SpeedFace-V5L terminals with the existing elevator control system of Kossan Rubber’s building. The SpeedFace-V5L terminal is installed next to the existing floor button panel, and is also connected to and managed by ZKBioSecurity platform, as the staffs’ personal information also include their specific rights of access to specific floors, all the staffs are required to scan their faces for identity authentication on the SpeedFace-V5L terminal. Upon successful authentication, they will be allowed to select floors on the panel, and they are only enabled to press the floor buttons they are authorized to. If a staff presses a button of a floor he or she is not authorized of access, the elevator control system will automatically deny. ZKBioSecurity Integrated Security Management Platform Software, all staffs are pre-registered with the personal information and their facial data for identity authentication. Upon access and exit of the building, instead of swiping card, the staffs are only required to scan their faces on the SpeedFace-V5L terminals, the terminals then automatically authenticate their identities and grant access and exit.
Advantages
Quick and Effective Identity Authentication
SpeedFace-V5L is a standalone terminal with outstanding facial authentication function. Its advanced facial authentication algorithm enables ultimately quick authentication of face in less than 1 second. SpeedFace-V5L also enables anti-spoofing, which effectively prevent print attack (laser, color and black & white photos), videos attack and 3D mask attack. Staffs no longer need to take out their staff cards for swiping, saving the time and enhancing the efficiency of access control, and also effectively minimizing the possible mistakes by security staffs’ manual monitoring. Also, with integration with the existing third-party elevator control system, the SpeedFace-V5L extends the access control to all the floors, and prevents illegal access to protect the safety of the entire building.
Flexible and Convenient Access Control Setting
As all the devices are connected to the ZKBioSecurity, management staffs are enabled to view all the access control records anytime, and edit access control settings, such as rearranging staffs’ rights of access to specific floors due to the changes of their job duties. Also, with the integration to the third-party system, the existing staff cards are remained, and can be flexibly utilized to enhance access control, for example, Activating two-step authentication with both facial authentication and card-swiping identification during certain period.
Maximizing Cost Efficiency
As ZKTeco’s products are equipped with flexible integration capability, SpeedFace-V5L and ZKBioSecurity can be conveniently integrated with the existing third-party elevator control system, with needing to replace the system with a new one, and the floor panel is also remained with new facial authentication function added. The installation cost is minimized and the cost of staffs’ adaptation to a new system are saved.
Video Surveillance Considering that Kossan Rubber has already has numerous video surveillance cameras installed around the building, and has proper performance, instead of entire replacement of the system, it was more necessary to ensure that the security staffs of Kossan Rubber could have more situational understanding of the security situation of the building. Thus, ZKTeco integrated all the existing third-party cameras with ZKBioSecurity platform.
Advantages
Improved Security with Video Surveillance Monitoring Performance
In addition to access control, a robust video surveillance system is also necessary to enhance security. The design of ZKBioSecurity is intended for comprehensive security management, and therefore it has powerful integration capabilities with third-party devices, including a video surveillance module.
After integrating with all video surveillance cameras, security personnel can view real-time monitoring on the ZKBioSecurity interface. This allows for a significant enhancement of the office building's security level, without the need to incur substantial costs to install a new video surveillance solution.
Parking Management
ZKTeco has installed two BGM1000 Series Boom Barriers at the entrance and exit of the parking garage for Kossan Rubber's office building. Each barrier is 4.5m in length, forming a pair of barriers, which are connected to the existing parking management system to manage the entry and exit of vehicles.
Advantages
Outstanding Performance Enhancing Vehicle Access Efficiency
Compared to general vehicle barriers, ZKTeco BGM1000 Series Barriers have outstanding performance that can improve the efficiency of vehicle entry and exit. Firstly, the ZKTeco BGM1000 barriers are designed with reversible directions, enable two-barrier configuration to create a 9-meter wide passage. Each barrier can raise and lower in as little as 3 seconds, enabling quick passage of vehicles of different sizes. Additionally, the BGM1000 has a strong environmental adaptation capability, with an IP54 waterproof & dustproof rating, and a wide operating temperature range of -35°C to 70°C and relative humidity below 90%, ensuring effective operation even in highly variable environmental and weather conditions.
Powerful Integration Capability Maximizing Cost Effectiveness
The ZKTeco BGM1000 series vehicle barriers have powerful integration flexibility. In addition to being able to be configured as a pair, they can also be integrated with existing third-party parking management systems, eliminating the need to replace the entire system and thus improving the cost-effectiveness of the solution.
