The B. K. Birla College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Kalyan, is a renowned autonomous college in Maharashtra, affiliated with the University of Mumbai. Established in 1972 by the Kalyan Citizens' Education Society, the college offers undergraduate, postgraduate and research programs in various.

Challenge 

As a prestigious institute located in the country's largest metropolitan region, ensuring enhanced security became a top priority for the college administration. While security guards were stationed at entry points and throughout the campus, the high volume of students, particularly during peak hours, made it challenging to manually monitor the main passageway with complete accuracy. This created potential vulnerabilities that could compromise campus safety.

Requirement

To address security challenges, B. K. Birla College has deployed a card authentication-based pedestrian access control system. This system has been installed at the main entrance and other entry and exit points, featuring the ZKTeco KR600E RFID reader and the ZKTeco TS2000 Plus tripod turnstile, ensuring that students and faculty can enter the campus quickly and safely.

The ZKTeco KR600E RFID reader offers a reading range of up to 10 cm and a rapid identification speed of up to 300 milliseconds, significantly enhancing access efficiency. Meanwhile, the ZKTeco TS2000 Plus tripod turnstile is made of SUS304 stainless steel, ensuring long-term durability, and features an aesthetically pleasing streamlined design for user convenience. This turnstile also includes safety functions, automatically dropping the arm in case of power failure or emergency situations to ensure safe evacuation.

Additionally, the system supports bidirectional movement, flexibly accommodating various needs, and is easy to install in different indoor or outdoor environments, such as schools, museums, factories, and gyms. The system boasts a mean time to repair (MTTR) of less than 60 minutes and a mean cycles between failures (MCBF) of up to  2 million, demonstrating its high efficiency and reliability. These features not only enhance campus security but also effectively manage pedestrian flow, providing a safe and orderly environment for the school.
